Hoedspruit Holiday Guide

Description

Hoedspruit is a small town in the south of Mpumalanga in the Limpopo Province. It is both a railway and road junction and is a convenient platform for “big 5” tourism. It is located a short drive away from both the Orpen and the Phalaborwa gates of the world famous Kruger National Park.

It is located even closer to the private game areas of Klaserie and Timbavati. The Sabi Sands game areas are also a short distance away.

Here towering cliffs meet endless expanses of bush veld, the realm of the Big Five, where vast plains, covered with marula, acacia, combretum and mopani woodlands, stretch as far as the eye can see. Here, in dappled sunlight and on open African veld, you can experience the sights, sounds and textures of an eco-system time forgot. Here you can witness the private lives of over 80 common mammal species, over 400 bird species and a great variety of amphibian and insect life. While you are here, remember too that this was the cradle of mankind, the womb of which sprang modern man, hundreds of thousands of years ago, to scratch out an uncertain existence in one of the most hostile places on earth.

Even now, there is evidence aplenty of man’s battle to survive. More and more evidence is being found that this area is where man’s first ancestors appeared in South Africa.
